A request to approve the Downtown/Riverfront District plan was removed from Tuesday’s agenda, after it was determined that in order to approve the plan, the city will need to hold a public hearing. Once a public hearing has been advertised and held, the council will vote on whether to adopt the plan.
The council also voted Tuesday to issue a zero-percent mortgage to the Downtown Redevelopment Authority for a piece of property on Broad Street that includes the Victory Auto Parts building. Hardin said that the redevelopment authority is in the process of negotiating a land swap with a developer that would include the property, and the decision to hand control of the property to the authority was a “gesture” to show the developer that the city was serious about the swap.
“This allows DRA to go forward with the land swap,” he said.
