The second in a series of three Phenix City Riverfront/Downtown Masterplanning Workshops sponsored by the East Alabama Riverfront Redevelopment Group (EARD) and Phenix City will be held tonight.

The meeting, to begin at 6 p.m. at the Phenix City Central Activity Center, will focus on “Alternative Concepts and Designs,” and will feature a presentation by the Boulevard Group, as well as time for community feedback. The Boulevard Group’s presentation will include information on market and development trends, whitewater development and plans for beginning the redevelopment project.

The first community workshop, held in May, drew only about 50 people. Several community members in attendance raised concerns and asked questions about the project.

Sammy Howard, the chairman of EARD, said tonight’s meeting will look at parts of redevelopment in detail. “The last (meeting) was general, this one will get a little more specific,” he said.

“We hope we have a good crowd,” Howard said, “and that people will come to voice their opinions.”
